The menu offers a wide variety of options, making it easy for groups to find something they enjoy. The food was actually quite good. We ordered a salad, calamari, pizza, pasta, and dessert, and all the dishes were enjoyable. The pizza was particularly satisfying, and the meal ended on a sweet note with a good dessert. Overall, the quality of the food met our expectations and left us happy. Service, however, was only so-so. It wasn’t bad, but it lacked the attentiveness and warmth that would have elevated the overall experience. That said, the food was definitely the highlight, and we would still recommend Gusto Napoletano to anyone looking for a good Italian meal in Budapest.
Gusto Napoléon impressed us with both its food and ambience, delivering a delightful Italian dining experience from start to finish. We started with the Aniello Pizza, which featured a beautifully baked crust with excellent texture and flavour. The pizza dough had the right balance of chewiness and crispness, making every bite enjoyable. The Fettuccine Alfredo was equally satisfying, cooked perfectly al dente and coated in a rich, creamy sauce that wasn't overly heavy. The Caesar con Pollo was fresh and well-balanced, while the Frittura di Pesce Misto offered a good variety of seafood with a light, crispy batter. For drinks, the Cherry Meggy and Raspberry Lemonade were refreshing accompaniments to the meal, providing a pleasant fruity contrast to the savoury dishes. Dessert was a highlight. The Cannolo Siciliano al Pistachio delivered a lovely combination of crisp pastry and creamy filling, while the Tiramisu was rich, smooth, and beautifully executed, providing a perfect ending to the meal. I visited Gusto Napoletano during my time in Budapest, and it genuinely exceeded my expectations. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels warm and inviting. It has that perfect mix of casual and authentic Italian dining without feeling overly polished or touristy. You can see the pizza oven and the preparation, which adds to the experience and gives you confidence that everything is being made fresh. The pizza itself was outstanding. The dough was clearly well-fermented, giving it that light, airy texture with a soft centre and beautifully puffed crust. The slight char from the wood-fired oven added a lot of flavour without being overpowering. I had a classic Margherita as well as another specialty pizza, and both were excellent. The ingredients really stood out, especially the tomato base, which tasted rich and balanced, and the mozzarella, which was fresh and creamy. What I appreciated most is that they didn’t try to overcomplicate things. It’s simple food done properly, which is exactly what Neapolitan pizza should be. Even the olive oil and finishing touches made a difference. Service was also very good. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and attentive without hovering. They were happy to answer questions and made the whole experience feel relaxed. Food came out in good time, even though the restaurant was quite busy, which says a lot about how well it’s run. In terms of value, I think it’s very fair for the quality you’re getting, especially considering the central location. You can easily spend more elsewhere and not get the same level of authenticity. If I had to mention one small thing, it’s that the centre of the pizza is quite soft, but that’s actually true to traditional Neapolitan style, so it really comes down to personal preference rather than a flaw. Overall, I’d highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Budapest who appreciates proper Italian pizza. It’s clear they take pride in their craft, and it shows in every detail. I would definitely come back.
We had the calzone - big portion, fully stuffed with cheese, ham and salami, but the dough was a bit undercooked and needed more baking. We also had the ravioli with cream, truffle oil, and porcini mushrooms. It was the best dish we had but the portion was small. We finally got the stracciatella with mushrooms pizza. It luck a bit of taste but the cooking was good. Weird enough, even though we were placed next to the kitchen, the dishes came to us a bit cold. Especially the ravioli. Finally the thing that disappointed us was the service. The staff was polite, but the hostess or owner was just sitting there, taking video calls, looking weird to the clients, playing with her hair. Her full appearance was just rude. If it wasn't for the service we would have visited the place again.
