KönyvBár offers one of the most memorable dining experiences I’ve had in Budapest. From the moment the book-inspired Odyssey menu landed on the table, it felt like stepping into a curated story rather than simply going out for dinner. The concept is what makes the experience so special: each course is themed around Homer’s Odyssey, turning the meal into an elegant journey. Dishes like The Fall of Troy with the smoke and ashes and Poseidon’s Fury were especially memorable, and the whole menu felt thoughtful, creative, and immersive. What I loved most was how beautifully the restaurant combined fine dining with a literary atmosphere. The presentation, the concept, and the overall sense of occasion made the evening feel unique and elevated, while still warm and inviting. The book experience itself was fantastic, and the menu design added so much charm to the visit. It’s the kind of place that stays with you after the meal, not just because of the food, but because of the feeling of being part of a story.
What a unique place! We were lucky enough to visit on the very first day of the special tasting menu inspired by Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, and it made the whole experience feel even more special. Every course was beautifully presented, creative, and absolutely delicious. You can really see how much thought and passion goes into both the food and the storytelling behind the menu. The atmosphere was cozy, elegant, and perfect for a relaxed evening. A special shoutout to our waiter, who was an absolute friendly, attentive and genuinely welcoming. His great service made an already wonderful evening even better. If you're in Budapest and looking for something different from a regular restaurant, KönyvBár & Restaurant is an experience you shouldn't miss. We would definitely come back!
Can I just stay here and read all the books! We did the 3course menu with wine pairing and it was more than delicious. So much thought goes into each aspect of the menu. I loved all of the little details. The staff was super friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Even the playlist was spot on.
I wanted to get the lord of the rings menu but it wasn’t available at the time. Got the stranger things one instead. The food is very good, not amazing or exceptional, but enjoyable and creative enough that if I have the chance I’ll revisit. Service is great and who doesn’t wanna dine in a cozy library 😅 Would recommend!
If the food doesn't live up to the 'theatre' what's the point? However the food is excellent the theatrical touches are fun. We didn't know Stranger Things having apparently lived under a rock of late but the waiters explained...the 'blood' for example was beetroot juice. The theatre of the opening of the dragons egg was brilliant. But it's the food that is important and it was interesting (in a good way) and tasty. The waiter knew his stuff when he was talking about the wine as well. There are books on virtually every wall giving the place a special ambiance. KonyvBar is highly recommended.
