Very traditional restaurant in Hungary style. Huge portion, amazing fresh and good preparations of the food. Nice live music. Good service, nice and polite servers. Very recommended
We had an absolutely amazing experience at Csalánosi Csárda Óbuda. From the moment we arrived, the hospitality was incredible: warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive throughout the entire evening. The service was truly top notch and made us feel at home immediately. The food was outstanding. The portions were huge, full of flavor, and beautifully presented. The goulash was rich, authentic, and probably one of the best Hungarian meals we have had. Everything tasted fresh and homemade, exactly what you hope for when looking for traditional Hungarian cuisine. The spicy sides and fresh vegetables complemented the dishes perfectly. What made the experience even more special was the live traditional Hungarian music, which created such an authentic and cozy atmosphere. Combined with the rustic interior and excellent food, it felt like a true Hungarian dining experience rather than a touristy restaurant. 10/10 hospitality, amazing food, generous portions, fantastic atmosphere, and live music. We would absolutely come back and highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Budapest and looking for real traditional Hungarian cuisine.
I give 5/5, but I have mixed feelings about this place:) On one hand, I really appreciated the local atmosphere and the chance to try authentic Hungarian cuisine (and no, the heavily advertised “Hungarian food” in the city center has very little to do with the real thing). We came here on the recommendation of a Budapest local, which already set good expectations. The portions were enormous-we only had the goulash soup, because after such a starter there was absolutely no room for a main course. It was aromatic, flavorful, and genuinely delicious. The prices were more than reasonable compared to restaurants in the city center. The staff really tried their best, though communication in English was a bit of a challenge. Now for the downsides: the menu should be at least half as long. It creates confusion and raises questions about the freshness and overall quality of every dish. For example, the pasta in cream sauce with mushrooms was rather bland and forgettable. There is also live music-three musicians meant to make the meal more enjoyable. Not everyone likes or appreciates that. We chose a table specifically away from where the band was playing… but unfortunately, the musicians came to us anyway. All in all: it’s worth it. It’s worth going to Óbuda, seeing a part of the old third district that helped form today’s capital, and tasting real local cuisine-rather than settling for watery goulash soup and greasy lángos sold in the very center.
The service and cleanliness were very good. We first ordered soup; it was very tasty and served with bone marrow. The portion was really big. Afterwards, we ordered the grill platter. When we saw the portion, we couldn’t believe our eyes — the price and portion size were definitely satisfying. However, I can’t say the same about the taste of the meat on the grill platter, because not every type of meat should be cooked the same way. You can’t just grill everything the same way and serve it.
I was recommended this place by a Hungarian friend, and I’m so glad I came. The moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and cozy—just like being at home. The staff were very welcoming and provided excellent service. The food was delicious, and if you want to try authentic Hungarian flavors, this is definitely the place to go. The portions are huge, so order carefully! I also recommend making a reservation because the restaurant gets full. They even have live music with singers, which creates a really nice vibe. And the pálinka? Absolutely fantastic.
