Excellent vibe, extensive options in the menu, exquisite food, and very good service. Food can be slightly long wait but I can tell the food served on the table today were not prepared ahead of time. The desert dish czaszarmorzsa was excellent
Overall, it’s the perfect place to treat yourself to something sweet after walking all day. The Dobos torte was smaller than expected, but it tasted good. Nothing too special, but definitely enjoyable. The lychee drink was very refreshing and a great choice. 7,3/10 The apple cake was a little dry for my taste, but the vanilla ice cream made up for it. 7/10 The service was friendly, and the café had a beautiful interior with a cozy atmosphere. 9/10

If you’re visiting Budapest and want to experience authentic Hungarian cuisine away from the tourist crowds, Főőrség és Lovarda is an absolute must. From the moment we arrived, we knew this was going to be special. The restaurant combines beautiful surroundings near Buda Castle with warm Hungarian hospitality and outstanding food made from fresh, high-quality ingredients. Everything we ordered was exceptional. The chicken salad was incredibly fresh, the spinach soup was rich and comforting, the traditional goulash was one of the best we’ve ever had, the fish was perfectly cooked, and even the homemade lemonade was refreshing and delicious. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of authentic flavor. What truly made our visit unforgettable was the incredible service. Mr. Gabor and Mr. Adrian went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. They were professional, friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about ensuring we had an amazing dining experience. Their recommendations and hospitality made us feel like honored guests rather than tourists. After traveling extensively around the world, we can honestly say this was one of our favorite meals. If you appreciate authentic food, outstanding service, and a restaurant that showcases the very best of Hungarian cuisine, Főőrség és Lovarda should be at the top of your list. A perfect 5-star experience from beginning to end. We will absolutely return the next time we’re in Budapest!
Dining at Főőrség Étterem és Kávéház was a wonderful experience in a beautiful historic setting in Buda Castle. The atmosphere is elegant and unique, combining Hungarian history with a refined café experience. What I enjoyed the most was the lemonade and the dessert both were absolutely delicious. The lemonade was fresh, refreshing, and perfect after walking around the castle area, while the dessert was beautifully presented and full of flavor, making the experience even more special. The location and ambiance make this place feel very charming, and it’s a perfect stop to relax while enjoying Budapest. Overall, a fantastic place in Budapest elegant, refreshing, and highly recommended for anyone who wants to enjoy a great lemonade and dessert in a historic atmosphere.
We had a lovely experience here. The food was genuinely delicious, everything tasted fresh and was beautifully prepared. The cleanliness was also excellent throughout, which made the whole atmosphere feel very comfortable and welcoming. A special thank you to András for his kind and attentive service — he was professional, friendly, and made us feel very welcome. We would also like to mention Ágnes, as the cleanliness and care she puts into her work truly stood out. We really enjoyed our visit and would happily come back again. 😊
