We had been looking forward to dining here after hearing so many great things, but unfortunately our experience was very disappointing. We spent around $150 for dinner. We ordered a bottle of Hungarian wine, beef tartare, and duck liver. The wine was good, but the food was underwhelming. The duck liver was served as a pâté, which was not what we expected. The biggest disappointment was the service. When the sommelier came over, we politely said we would choose the wine ourselves. After that, the attitude toward us noticeably changed. We felt ignored for most of the evening while the staff focused almost entirely on a large business table nearby. It also wasn’t pleasant that tables and furniture were being moved around during service. For a restaurant with this reputation and these prices, I expected much more attention to guests and a much higher level of hospitality. Unfortunately, this experience did not justify the cost, and I would not return.
Food was so tasty but the one to take the coin was Balázs, our sommelier who not only gave us the best recommendation of wine and literally had 5min information on one single bottle - but since my friend didn’t hear him say that he was the sommelier, he started saying what he wanted to order - Balazs then explained which wine would go perfect with that AND became our server by putting in the order of food and constantly checking on us and filling our glasses. 5star service and such a sweet energy
I will start with the positive the stuff was really nice and welcoming and they gave us a great treatment. The first course were OK, we ordered the octopus that for my taste was a bit to hard. We got the tuna tartar that was nice but not special. And we got goulash soup, the meat was tender and the taste was good but we ate better on our trip to budapest. For main course we had the new York steak the sauce was really nice. Also we had a roll of sushi that was nice and the shnizel that was really good. But the over all experience was mediocre. For the high price I expected extraordinary flavors and a unique experience. So we finished the evening a bit disappointed. We expected much more.
I came here for dinner my first night in Budapest. I had the famous Spago Salmon which was excellent and the Gnochi. Both were good but the Pizza was better. For dessert I had the Somloi Galuska in nutshells which looked like a work of art however I didnt find the taste anything special. I stopped by the next day for lunch as I had a meeting very close by and I had the Goulash and Spago Burger. The Goulash was average at best and the burger was very disappointing. I had mych better burger at very simple places. So overall I would say the food is hit or miss depending on what you order. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great and the service was excellent, unfortunately the food just didnt blow me away compared to other restaurants I have been to.
I was honestly so impressed. The food was absolutely delicious and you can really taste the quality in every dish. Everything felt fresh and carefully prepared. The staff was incredibly kind and welcoming, always ready to help with a smile. They even offered us dessert for free, which was such a sweet and unexpected gesture. I definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Budapest !!!
