I had a fantastic experience at Borkonyha in Budapest. The courses were delicious, beautifully plated, and exceptionally well balanced from start to finish. What stood out most was how carefully the flavors were layered: rich elements were balanced by bright, fresh notes, and nothing felt too heavy or overpowering. The meal had such a lovely focus on summer flavors in Hungary, with cucumber, beet, zucchini, lime, dill, basil, and other fresh herbs woven throughout the courses. The Parmesan foam was a perfect example of the balance in the meal: savory and creamy, but still light enough to let the brighter flavors shine. I also loved the bread service, the tomato and gnocchi-style course, the perfectly cooked beef with mushrooms and vegetables, the beet course, the delicate fish with green herb oil and fresh cucumber-lime-dill flavors, and the beautiful desserts and small bites to finish. Each dish felt creative and refined, but still genuinely delicious and approachable. The staff were also wonderful: friendly, helpful, attentive, and welcoming. They made the experience feel polished without being stuffy. A memorable meal in Budapest and a restaurant I would happily recommend. 5 stars.
We were a party of five who all love good food. We had a dinner today at this place. The interior decoration is clean and casual. The beef ribs were succulent, the fish was excellent too. The local Pinot Noir was good but lacked complexity. Service may appear a bit slow as we had to wait pretty long time between each course.
Everything was exceptional, from the 1st dish to the last. We had wine pairing along with our food which makes it even more amazing. Visited this place 9 years ago and back again, they never disappoint. Glad we decided to go back as the food and service were indeed top notch.
Borkonyha offers interesting choice for a dining experience. It offers a laidback atmosphere with creative interesting dishes with a small touch of Asian cusine. It pairs this with good attentive service. Especially first course is an excellent reflection of great balance and showcase of flavors. The pre desert offers complex flavors throughout the consumption process. We fully recommend here for who is looking for great food and interesting tastes.
Came here for a late lunch since we had an early morning the next day. Happy to try many items on the menu. We were very full with the 4 course meal plus bread and small bites. Luckily, it is centrally located so we were able to walk around after. I liked the duck liver the most. My fish soup broth was good but became overwhelmingly fishy. The entrees were both good. The chocolate dessert was rich. I was not a fan of the mix texture at different temperatures of the rhubarb dessert. Overall good, affordable, and friendly service.
