Description
Our walk in Buda's Old Town starts from the fairytale-like Fisherman's Bastion, where you can take in the breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage panorama of Budapest, while learning about the beginnings of Hungarian history. We pass the iconic Matthias Church, where the last kings of Hungary were crowned. Walking through the narrow streets and medieval houses of the hilltop Castle District, you'll also get a glimpse into the lives of Buda's citizens alongside the kings. You can learn how nobles, soldiers and merchants survived both above and below ground the great disasters (fires, epidemics, sieges) that hit the city. Although the walled city of Buda has safeguarded the secrets of its ancient homes for centuries, the walk culminates in a rare opportunity to step inside a noble town palace (De la Motte–B.-Palace) and marvel at its 250-year-old living spaces decorated with Baroque wall paintings. Every corner of the building will be explored, from the wine cellar, which served as a shelter during World War II, to the herb loft, bringing to life the everyday world of Buda’s former apothecary and his family.Includes
