The tour begins with hotel pickup in Budapest. You will pass the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Acquincum before reaching Szentendre, a town known for its narrow streets, colorful houses, and Mediterranean atmosphere. Explore local shops and galleries, including the Szamos Marcipan Manufacture and Museum.
Next, travel to Visegrád to visit the medieval castle and enjoy panoramic views of the Danube Bend. Note that from January 12 to February 28, the castle is open only on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Nearby Visegrád is the Pilis Biosphere Reserve, featuring unique vegetation, creeks, waterfalls, and trout-filled lakes. Lunch options include a forest restaurant serving local game and freshly caught trout (closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays) or other nearby locations.
The tour continues to Esztergom, home to Hungary's largest church, the Esztergom Basilica, known for its neoclassical design and massive dome. Nearby is the Royal Castle, historically the seat of Hungarian kings until the mid-13th century.
From Esztergom, the tour crosses briefly into Slovakia for photo opportunities of the Basilica and Castle from across the Danube. A valid ID is recommended as a precaution despite no border control. The tour then returns to Budapest.
