Description
In this 2.5-hour-long walk I will show you Budapest’s most impressive street, the UNESCO World Heritage site Andrássy Avenue with all its great attracions and its history. We start our tour in front of the third largest Roman Catholic church of Hungary, the beautiful St Stephen's Basilica of Budapest where I will talk about the story of the construction of this amazing church and I will give you an architectural description on the basilica's outer structure. Then we will head towards the most beautiful avenue of Budapest, Andrássy Avenue to explore its jewels. We will discover beautiful aristocracy palaces built in the 19th century, a great number of important public institutions – buildings of former and current museums, theatres and universities –, and we will also pass by a beautiful café related to the famous coffee house culture of Pest which evolved during the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy’s era. We will see the ’musical pearl’ of the avenue, the Hungarian State Opera House from outside and I will tell you why and how was it constructed. We will have a look at the famous buildings of Nagymező Street which is usually referred to as the 'Broadway of Pest', the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music and the memorial museums related to Zoltán Kodály and Ferenc Liszt. We will see the statues of two great Hungarian poets, and those of great Hungarian generals and I will also take you to one of the biggest crossroads of Budapest, Oktogon Square where you will see the world's busiest tram lines and where you can get a real taste of the buzzling city life of Budapest. I will show you a house the facade of which was painted with a special painting technique originating from Italy, historical apartment buildings which served as the residence for the citizens of Pest and luxurious shops of the leading fashion brands of the world. I will tell you the story of the construction of this splendid avenue and that of the Millennial Underground with interesting stories about famous Hungarian politicans, writers, sculptors and noblemen of the 19th- and 20th-century capital. I will talk about the various architectural styles found on the ‘Champs-Élysées of Budapest’ and about the life of Budapest citizens living here in the past two centuries. We will end our tour near Heroes' Square where I will let you get a taste of Hungarian culture by singing you the most beautiul Hungarian folk songs and by showing you some traditional Hungarian folk dance steps!Includes
