Description
Join an alternative walk through the green spaces of Budapest to uncover the secrets and history of Gellért Hill. The tour begins at the statue of Gellért, who was Hungary’s first Christian martyr, offering views across the Elizabeth Bridge and the Pest side of the city.
Continue to search for large stone balls scattered along the hillside. Visit the small bronze statue of Prince Buda and Princess Pest, a tactile statue designed for visually impaired visitors, located near a lookout point with views over Buda Castle.
Ascend further past villas owned by Budapest’s wealthiest residents until reaching the Citadella lookout point, recently recreated in spring 2026, where you can see expansive views of the city.
Descend via a hidden path along the steep, rocky side of Gellért Hill, crossing over the Danube River on a secure trail that leads to a lookout point facing a new direction.
Climb down stairs to visit the Cave Church, a religious site set inside a cave that was sealed with a two-meter-thick concrete wall during the communist era and is now open to visitors. Note that the Cave Church is closed on Sundays, but the rest of the tour remains available.
