Description
Hungarian history has never been boring – but the last century and a half have revealed just about every facet of it: from the peaceful Compromise with Franz Joseph to the two world wars, the Hungarian Arrow Cross Party, 'Stalin's best pupil,' goulash communism, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the right-wing populism of Viktor Orbán.
On this tour, we will spend most of our time walking around Freedom Square in the center of Pest, where dozens of statues, monuments, and buildings provide a vivid account of the last century and a half.
However, the tour covers not only pure history and politics but also sociological aspects that explain the way of thinking and acting of the Hungarian population.
The tour ends at the Parliament Building, where, after discussing history, we will also talk about the present state of Hungarian politics.
