Just had an amazing meal at Belvárosi Lugas. Started with their goulash—rich, deeply flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Then moved on to the chicken paprikash, which was tender, creamy, and packed with that classic Hungarian paprika punch. Everything felt authentic and made with care. If you’re in Budapest and want real Hungarian comfort food, this place is a must. Highly recommend! Update: I went back three times! There are very friendly, thanks 🙏 Eva and the rest of the staff!

Was it worth a detour? Not necessarily, but a nice and easy option if you’re already in the area. We found it while exploring, and it worked well for us. What about the food? Good and enjoyable, even if nothing really stood out in particular. A solid choice for a relaxed meal. How was the service? Very friendly and helpful staff, and they speak good English which makes everything smooth and welcoming. What’s the venue like? Casual and relaxed, with a laid-back atmosphere. Easy to walk in and get a table without a reservation. Anything that could be better? Maybe a bit more character in the food, but overall a pleasant experience.

It was a really amazing experience! The host is very gentle and complaisant. We were advised with the dishes very well. The food was really delicious. The location itself is very comfortable, easy to find, with an amazing view right in front of St Istvan Basil. Highly recommend to everyone who wanna try high quality traditional cuisine!

Belvárosi Lugas is a small restaurant, but the tables are arranged in the most efficient way possible so they can serve more guests without making the space feel crowded. It almost feels like walking through a maze—you pass between the tables to reach your seat, yet everything feels comfortable and well thought out. The atmosphere is warm and family-like. It honestly felt like I was visiting aunt’s home, and my cousin was personally taking care of me. On a rainy evening, I started with mulled wine and goulash, and both were excellent. The cooking had that genuine homemade quality—comforting, rich, and full of flavor. Then I ordered the chicken paprikash, and I finished it in no time. Everything tasted delicious and homemade. The dessert was the grand finale. It was unbelievably good—a perfect balance of sweet and sour, soft and crispy. Every bite surprised me. I honestly don’t know how else to say it—it was amazing. Also, a small detail that I loved: their salt and pepper holder was really cute and unique. I’ve noticed many restaurants in Budapest have their own distinctive ones—it feels like part of the local culture. Even the tablecloth stood out
