I had a 7-night stay at this hotel. Overall, my stay was satisfactory and the staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is located conveniently next to the metro and tram station. My room was small, but adequate for my needs, had a mini-fridge, and enough storage space for my clothing. The bed was comfortable. The air conditioning was functional, but loud at the highest setting. The breakfast was tasty. Housekeeping cleaned my rooms well when requested. My room was on the first floor and faced the street/tram station. I could hear frequent sirens and the tram, however, slept fine with earplugs. The main thing I did not like is that the bathroom has poor ventilation and the water from the shower does not drain properly due to a level shower floor. After showering, the bathroom would remain damp with a large puddle of water on the shower floor for hours afterwards. This would occasionally cause a sour mildew smell to emanate from the bathroom.
Stayed in a Junior Suite at the Hotel Nemzeti Budapest - MGallery for a city trip and overall I’d rate it somewhere between 3 and 4 stars. The hotel clearly wants to position itself as a higher-end boutique property, and at first glance it succeeds: the historic building is beautiful from the outside and the design concept is stylish. But after a closer look, too many operational and practical weaknesses start to show. One important thing upfront: the hotel interior is significantly darker than the photos suggest. The Google pictures make the hotel look bright, airy, and almost white-toned inside. In reality, the lighting is much dimmer and moodier throughout the property. The overall layout and design are technically the same as shown online, but the atmosphere feels far darker and more enclosed in person. The biggest issue was the overall functionality and comfort of the hotel. There appears to be only one elevator actually accessible to guests, constantly creating waiting times and bottlenecks. There may technically be a second elevator somewhere, but during the entire stay I never managed to find it. Combined with the relatively dark hallways and inner courtyard layout, the hotel sometimes feels a bit claustrophobic. The interior condition is also more worn than expected for this category. In our room, some lamps were already partially hanging out of their mountings and visibly not secured properly anymore. Small details like this create the impression that maintenance is lagging behind the design ambitions. Breakfast was honestly frustrating, especially considering the hotel category and price level. The breakfast room is too small and only has a skylight, making it feel cramped and slightly gloomy. Even worse, the staff seemed unable to keep basic items stocked despite there being enough employees around. During breakfast on Saturday morning, hot sausages were empty, scrambled eggs were empty, juice was empty, and even glasses ran out. That should simply not happen in a hotel at this level. Service was inconsistent. The first employee at check-in came across as uninterested and unfriendly, while the second staff member who handed us the room cards was very warm and professional. Bar staff were also perfectly fine, and the cocktails were genuinely good. However, the bar itself feels acoustically unpleasant — very echoey and loud, almost like sitting in a train station hall because of the high ceilings and lack of sound insulation. The location is one of the hotel’s strongest points. There is a metro station, tram stop, and bus connections directly outside the entrance, making it extremely convenient for exploring Budapest. The Junior Suite itself had mixed qualities. The sofa bed was surprisingly comfortable, the towels were thick and high quality, bathrobes were provided, and the TVs are modern with Netflix connectivity. However, the room smelled noticeably musty, and the air conditioning did not work properly. Since the room was under the roof, the windows were very small and could only be opened halfway, so the room lacked daylight and felt somewhat enclosed. The bathroom design also prioritizes aesthetics over practicality. There are barely any storage surfaces, and the open shower design regularly floods parts of the bathroom floor. Breakfast selection overall was acceptable, but nothing memorable or special. In summary: visually attractive hotel, excellent location, decent cocktails, but too many annoying details and operational shortcomings for the price category. The hotel looks better in photos than it feels during an actual stay. I would probably choose another Accor property next time I visit Budapest.
I stayed here for 4 nights and enjoyed it very much. Although the hotel bar is relatively small and doesn't have a "wow" selection, other services trump it. The hotel staff is really nice, professional and helpful, especially the young male receptionist who checked me in in the afternoon. Breakfast personel is also efficient, discreet and make sure the breakfast buffet (which I found very good on european standards) always refilled. The bed is comfortable as per MGallery and Sofitel standard, of course; and the topper is very thick, which means even if you have two twins beds put together, you can't feel the space in between and eventually end up with a bed wider than it is long. Location is ideal: right next to the entrance to a main Metro station, 20min on foot to the shopping aka fashion street, a few miniutes walk to New York Café. Yet is is absolutely quiet - makes me wonder if I was staying in a busy area at all. In general, I can't recommend the hotel enough.
We really liked this hotel a lot. Its a classic old historic hotel with lots beautiful features.Breakfast buffet was comprehensively outstanding. Our room was spacious courtyard facing with everything you need. Staff were friendly and Gabor provided outstanding customer service. Location is a bit away from the main tourist sites but we didn't mind as the standard of accommodation was great as was its price was good offset to the distance to the areas we wanted to see. Budapest is a well serviced city for public transport plenty to see and do.
We had a truly lovely stay and enjoyed every part of our experience. The breakfast was absolutely delightful, with a great variety of fresh and tasty options that made our mornings feel relaxed and special. It was clear that a lot of care went into both the food and the presentation. The service throughout our stay was consistently kind and welcoming. Everyone was friendly and helpful, which made us feel comfortable and well taken care of from the moment we arrived. The room was clean and tidy, and the overall cleanliness of the hotel met our expectations perfectly. A special thank you to Gábor for his kindness and attentiveness. He was incredibly thoughtful and made a real difference in our stay. We were especially grateful that the hotel allowed us to keep our luggage there while we went out to explore the city this small but very helpful gesture made our last day much easier and more enjoyable. Thank you for the hospitality and the warm atmosphere. We truly appreciated the care and attention, and we would happily recommend this hotel to others.
