From Franz Joseph to Viktor Orbán - Hungarian politics & history
1 ReviewsA very short walk around Freedom Square not only reveals the historical and political background of the last 150 years, but also the Hungarian way of thinking.
Highlights
- Stroll across Liberty Square to the Parliament building.
- See the monuments and memorials of the last 150 years.
- Experience an interesting 'journey' through Hungarian history.
- Learn about Hungary's current political situation.
Description
Hungarian history has never been boring - but the last century and a half has shown pretty much every facet: from the peaceful settlement with Franz Joseph to the two world wars, the Hungarian Arrow Crossers, Stalin's 'best pupils', goulash communism, the opening of the Berlin Wall and Viktor Orbán's right-wing populism. On this tour, we walk mostly on Freedom Square in the center of Pest, where dozens of statues, monuments and buildings explain the last century and a half very vividly. Not only history and politics are covered, but also sociological aspects that explain the way the Hungarian people think and act. The tour ends at the Parliament, where, after the history, the present of Hungarian politics is also discussed.Includes
