Description

Step out of the cold and into a small, welcoming café on Rákóczi Square this December. Soft lights, the smell of something good to eat, and retro Christmas tunes will set the mood. Together we’ll take a little time trip back to Budapest in the 70s and 80s. You’ll hear stories about how people celebrated Christmas back then, and learn a bit about the history and hidden corners of the legendary Rákóczi Square. We’ll have simple, classic Hungarian bites—retro sandwiches, a few well-known sweets like coconut balls and zserbó, plus warm and cold drinks such as spiced apple juice, elderflower syrup, lemonade, tea, and coffee. Nothing fancy, just the kind of snacks you might have found at a family gathering in that era. You’ll be invited to listen, share your own memories (if you have them), and chat with the others. There will be a short, informal talk about Budapest’s Christmas traditions in the 70s and 80s, with a small slideshow of archival photos and personal stories.
