Island Hostel

Top hostel and location. One of the few remaining real hostels that you can't fake. Edit is a great woman who keeps everything tightly run and is lovely and friendly. The dorms are basic and mixed but this isn't a problem as all the guests are relaxed and respectful. Security is great and the standard of cleanliness is super high. I didn't meet her famous cat but maybe this was the heat. A great place to chill for a few days on the island and relax. There's also a few great bars nearby if you like a salsa dance 💃
A safe, lovely place where culture meats nature. Super friendly, professional, helpful staff, they're running that place with true passion and love. My experience is that decent, polite, mostly younger travelers come there, there's no partying or any kind of disruption of peace there when the night comes, overall a very safe place in a very safe area. The rooms are nice and clean, everything is practical, there's a well-equiped kitchen, also there's a nice, big balcony full of beautiful plants and chill potential (i slept out there under the sky just for the experience). That island is a treasure island, right in the heart of the city but feels like a different world. You could just spend days exploring around that single island, especially if you like nature and movement. Connected to the hostel there's a bar that serve amazing food (try a burger, trust me...) There are also several other bars and restaurants, an outdoor theatre, a huge fountain with a musical light show in the evening, multiple baths, and many open minded people doing interesting group activities just random... and you haven't even left the island yet. Public transport is amazing, you can reach everything easily (one pro tip: don't use the bus when it's closing time in the baths, you might not fit, but the city's main tram line is easy to reach, a 5 min walk from the hostel). I highly recommend this place, one of my best accomodation experiences for sure.
The hostel itself is great. I’ve never used one before so wasn’t sure what to expect. The rooms and beds are good enough. The facilities on site are perfect. There’s a bar underneath with good food and drink. The island is beautiful to walk around. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. Let us check in early to get to the football. Even asked me to come back in when they found out I had a late flight home. Each bed had plugs and a safe locker with a key so I felt secure leaving my valuables there when heading out to the city. There’s a bus route that will take you direct to the station or city centre. Couldn’t have asked for more. Will hopefully be back.
When I first got here I was a bit taken aback by how busy Margaret Island was (I did arrive on a Friday evening! 😂) but over my 3 nights there I met amazing people, and ended up loving the Island Hostel! The ladies at reception were so sweet and helpful, the rooms (I was in the 10 bed dorm) were clean and comfortable, and I really enjoyed the terrace space - amazing views! 😍 I also loved that it’s surrounded by the gardens/park areas, so easy to relax in a bit of nature before and after a busy day exploring the city! Thank you for a great stay, I’ll definitely stay again if I come back to Budapest!
Lovely hostel! I really like the green Margaret Island, which is perfect for relaxing. Both Buda and Pest are close by and easily reachable by Tram 4/6, which runs almost every minute. The people working in the hostel are wonderful and will help you with any question. I have stayed at the Island Hostel twice for studying/research: Two weeks in summer and two weeks in winter---and I will definitely come back!
